About Us
Our Story

In 1992, a small group of forward-thinking editors at Canadian Living magazine identified a need to feed hungry children. They soon discovered that thousands of people across Canada shared their vision and wanted to help too.

This marked the start of a national movement that continues to grow today. Since our inception over 19 years ago, Breakfast for Learning has helped to nourish over 2.5 million children from coast to coast to coast.

Today, together with a network of over 30,000 volunteers, Breakfast for Learning has helped start and sustain over 2,380 nutrition programs, serving millions of healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks to more than 259,300 children and youth across the country in the 2010-2011 school year.

We believe in our community-development model that encourages communities to engage local expertise and resources to meet the needs of their child nutrition programs and the students it serves. We call upon all sectors – private, public and volunteer – to work together on behalf of Canada’s children.

When a child is hungry, it’s hard to learn. Together, we can help ensure children have the nutrition they need to grow and thrive with a world of opportunity in front of them.
