There are many wonderful resources available online to assist school nutrition program coordinators in planning healthy, nutritious meals but sometimes they are difficult to locate. The following websites are recommended for reliable information on school nutrition and healthy living practices for schools. Action Schools! BC This website is a great resource for school nutrition, health and activity information.There are also some great posters on colourful food choices and vegetable and fruit serving sizes www.actionschoolsbc.ca

Brand Name Food List British Columbia This is a fantastic resource for schools and parents who are concerned about the nutritional value of every day, brand name items. This free, searchable resource provides nutrition ratings for packaged and franchised foods to help you find Choose Most and Choose Sometimes items that meet BC’s nutrition standards for schools and public buildings. www.brandnamefoodlist.ca

Canadian Diabetes Association has many wonderful resources around good nutrition practices. One useful tool is called “Healthy Eating is in Store for You”, created by a collaborative partnership between the Canadian Diabetes Association and Dietitians of Canada . This educational program provides insight into the nutritional information on food labels that will help consumers to make food choices that will lead to overall health and reduce the risk of developing a chronic illness, such as type 2 diabetes. www.diabetes.ca/for-professionals/resources/nutrition/eating-healthy/

Canadian Health Network CHN is a national, non-profit, bilingual web-based health information service. CHN's goal is to help Canadians find the information they're looking for on how to stay healthy and prevent disease. CHN collaborates with a network of health information providers includes the Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada and national and provincial/territorial non-profit organizations, as well as universities, hospitals, libraries and community organizations. www.canadianhealthnetwork.ca
DASH BC: The Directorate of Agencies for School Health This site has a number of resources and reports relating to school health and nutrition. “Healthy Fundraising” provides an overview of ho to raise funds while promoting health and having fun. “School Health” and “The Healthy School Network” are links to check out as well. www.dashbc.org
