BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING NEW BRUNSWICK
Approximately 23,000 children in New Brunswick — nearly one in six — live in poverty*, meaning many may not be receiving the proper nutrition they need to thrive. *2008 New Brunswick Child and Family Poverty Report Card prepared by Saint John’s Human Development Council

In 2010/2011, Breakfast for Learning New Brunswick helped start and sustain 113 child nutrition programs, serving healthy meals and snacks to 9,943 students. Yet the need continues to grow. Last year, Breakfast for Learning was only able to grant 27% of the total amount of funds requested for breakfast, lunch and snack programs in New Brunswick.
Breakfast for Learning New Brunswick was established during the 1999-2000 school year, and is governed by the New Brunswick Advisory Council. The Council, comprised of 8 members, helps to ensure that the available funds for child nutrition programs be spent in the most efficient manner possible across the province. The Council also supports ongoing child nutrition education opportunities for schools and communities.
