October 1, 2012
This morning Breakfast for Learning presented the Toronto Foundation for Student Success with a cheque for $576,500 to support in school nutrition programs across Toronto. One in three children in Toronto live in poverty and more than 147,000 TDSB students rely on breakfast, snack and lunch programs to make it though the day. Mayor Rob Ford has proclaimed October 1 through 5 as Feeding Toronto’s Hungry Students Week in an effort to raise awareness for child hunger.
For 20 years, BFL has helped nourish over 2.5 million Canadian children. During the 2011-2012 school year, BFL helped start and sustain over 4,400 nutrition programs, serving millions of healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks to more than 430,000 children and youth across the country.
