Nunavut Insurance Brokers Golf Fore Kids Raises $22,000 for Programs in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut!

June 3 proved to be a cold and windy day but the weather did not discourage a full house of golfers from showing their support for Breakfast for Learning. Braving horizontal snow pellets, the golfers played a full 18 holes before gathering at the clubhouse for dinner and an auction. Larry Jacquard, Commercial Account Executive for Nunavut Insurance Brokers and tournament organizer, had collected an impressive array of auction items and the golfers bid generously knowing the proceeds would support healthy breakfast, lunch and snack programs in schools across the NWT and Nunavut.

Colin Matychuk, Managing Director at Nunavut Insurance Brokers explains why the company was so happy to help: “We chose Breakfast for Learning for a few reasons. The most important being that the best way to INSURE the prosperity, health and growth of a generation is by offering the best conditions in which children can learn. Having a healthy breakfast ensures they are well nourished and they will have a greater desire and a capacity to be challenged. It was also important to offer our support to a cause that covers both the Northwest Territories and Nunavut as our offices span both.”

“We’re simply thrilled,” says Dana Britton, the Breakfast for Learning Coordinator for the NWT. “The event exceeded all of our expectations and we’re very appreciative that Nunavut Insurance Brokers selected us to be the recipient of their generousity. Their enthusiasm for the work we do is heartening and we are delighted to have formed this partnership.”

Mark Plouffe, Food Studies Program Coordinator at St. Patrick High School in Yellowknife expresses best how important this kind of support is for Breakfast for Learning and the schools we support: “Contributions such as yours allow us to serve the students who, for whatever reason, come to school hungry and without breakfast or lunch. We continue to feed these students nutritious meals prepared with fresh ingredients, but what is sometimes more important is the feeling of comfort and stability these meals often instill in students who may be experiencing adverse living conditions at home.”

Each territory will be receiving $11,000 to support nutritious meals and snacks in schools in their region.
