breakfast for learning prince edward island
Breakfast for Learning PEI was established in November 2002, under the leadership of the PEI Healthy Eating Alliance, to ensure students on Prince Edward Island attend school well-nourished and ready to learn. Both organizations have evolved over the years and recently, Breakfast for Learning PEI has become its own entity. Breakfast for Learning PEI still has a strong partnership with the Healthy Eating Alliance and we work together on a variety of healthy eating initiatives.
Breakfast for Learning PEI works to advocate for unique, quality, community-based student nutrition programs, to provide expertise and resources to programs, to allocate Breakfast for Learning and Provincial Government funds in Prince Edward Island and to act in an advisory capacity to Breakfast for Learning national office. Breakfast for Learning PEI consists of one half-time staff person and a dedicated group of volunteers with experience in the Nutrition, Health and Education sectors, as well as many parent perspectives.
In 2010/11, Breakfast for Learning PEI helped start and sustain 49 child nutrition programs, and with a network of more than 500 dedicated and caring volunteers, we served 5,734 children and youth across the province.
